Message from President Dr. Binay Shah

Dear friend and supporter,

As I reflect on the year that has just passed and the years before, I remember my younger self – a 27-year-old doctor from Nepal who came to the United States with a suitcase, two-thousand dollars in my pockets, and nobody I knew in this country. Today, as I write this holiday greeting, I feel humbled, privileged, and blessed to call you and many other highly accomplished individuals like you a friend and a supporter. I am grateful for this friendship and all that we have been able to accomplish together in our mission to end cancer health disparities.

The year 2022 was significant for Binaytara Foundation. Earlier in March, we broke ground to build the first phase of the 200-bed cancer hospital in Janakpur, Nepal. We treated 1070 patients at the Binaytara Foundation Cancer Center in Nepal, performed several major oncology surgeries – the first in the province’s history, and provided 1068 doses of chemotherapies. Additionally, we trained human resources, established several departments, purchased new equipment, and implemented the new electronic health record system to support the hospital’s medical and surgical oncology services.

In the United States, we expanded our oncology continuing education conferences to five states and tripled the number of participants in our continuing education programs from 924 in 2021 to 2960 in 2022. I am grateful to you for your contribution to this growth.

Looking ahead to 2023, we expect to treat over 3000 patients at the Binaytara Foundation Cancer Center, provide cervical cancer screening to thousands of women, and save thousands of lives by providing timely diagnosis and treatment. In the US, 2023 will be a year of exponential growth. We aim to deliver oncology continuing education to over 10,000 healthcare providers through our multi-format educational platforms, including approximately 30 live conferences in 17 US states, self-paced continuing education activities, and our game-based continuing education app.

Our most significant funding need in 2023 is to build the first phase of the cancer hospital in Janakpur. This phase is expected to cost $8 million and be completed in 3-4 years. We have already raised $500K with the generous support of donors like you. Once completed, we expect to serve up to twenty thousand patients every year. We need your help to reach the goal of $8 million to save these lives.

Please donate now and help us in this mission to provide cancer care to 20,000 patients in Nepal and India by 2026.

Thank you for your support!

With gratitude,

Binay Shah, MD
