The Binaytara Foundation kicked off its new Global Health Speaker Series at its Bellevue office on May 1st, bringing together experts to discuss challenges and solutions in global health and oncology. The event welcomed esteemed guests Sarah Ewart, co-founder of Adduna Health Partners, and Dr. Yogendra Singh, a surgical oncologist at the Binaytara Foundation’s Cancer Hospital in Janakpur.
The session served as a platform for the Binaytara Foundation’s US-based team to gain valuable insights into Ewart’s extensive global health initiatives. Ewart shared her experiences, including contributions to projects such as the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center’s collaboration with Uganda Cancer Institute, advocacy for TB vaccine production, and efforts in infectious disease management. Emphasizing the significance of collaboration between governmental and international agencies in global health endeavors, Ewart underscored firsthand experiences from her work with Fred Hutch.
Attendees also received updates on the ongoing initiatives at the Binaytara Foundation Cancer Hospital in Janakpur, Nepal. Dr. Yogendra Singh, visiting Seattle for the Annual Summit on Cancer Health Disparities, provided insights into his efforts to mitigate the cancer burden in the Madhesh Province. Through a documentary screening highlighting the critical need for cancer care in the region, Dr. Singh shed light on the challenges faced due to limited resources in Janakpur and emphasized the necessity of the upcoming 200-bed BTF Cancer Hospital.
The engaging dialogue between global health leaders facilitated a mutual exchange of knowledge and experiences. The session not only enriched the Binaytara Foundation team’s understanding but also provided speakers with an opportunity to gain insights into contemporary challenges and solutions in the field. Ewart’s discourse on institutional collaboration and Dr. Singh’s firsthand accounts of cancer care delivery challenges set a precedent for future sessions, promising progressive discussions and novel insights.
The discussion underscored the Binaytara Foundation’s commitment to fostering progressive dialogue on global health issues.
