Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Pay: $72,500.00 - $75,000.00 per year

Reports to: Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications


About Binaytara Foundation:

Binaytara Foundation is a leading global oncology nonprofit, dedicated to reducing cancer health disparities around the world. Our mission is to improve access to cancer care, enhance continuing medical education, and foster implementation science research in hematology and oncology, thereby reducing the global burden of cancer. As the largest cancer conference organizer in the US, we impact thousands of doctors and oncology/hematology practitioners who attend our conferences to stay current on cutting-edge treatments for their patients. As a leader in global oncology, we have partnered with local government and health organizations in Nepal and India to improve access to cancer care. We are beginning construction on a 200-bed comprehensive cancer center in Janakpur, Nepal that will transform cancer care for people of Nepal and surrounding communities.


About Your Team:

The Assistant Communications Manager will join our Marketing and Communications Team: our Senior Marketing and Communications Manager (your direct supervisor), our Assistant Marketing Manager, our Digital Marketing Specialist, and interns all working together in our US headquarters in Bellevue, WA. We also have remote editorial board volunteers made up of cancer doctors to help write and review content, a communications consultant based in Kathmandu, Nepal to help with international media pitches, a six-person tech team working remotely including a UX designer, and our administrator at our Binaytara Foundation Cancer Center in Janakpur, Nepal who helps provide impact data, photography, stories and interviews of patients and staff.

Travel Requirement: This position may require travel to our conference/event sites in WA state or outside WA state which may include overnight stays.


Physical Ability: May be required to occasionally carry/lift/transport suitcases/bags/containers containing conference materials from/to the Binaytara Foundation office or another designated place to conferences sites. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required to load/off load those materials. Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.


Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Assistant Communications Manager to lead our content communications strategy and production. This individual will be responsible for creating, overseeing, and editing compelling content that communicates Binaytara Foundation’s mission, projects, impact, and thought leadership in global oncology. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing and editing skills, a strong understanding of cancer or healthcare, and a talent for impactful storytelling.


Key Responsibilities:

70% Writing and Editing:

Create written communications that increase Binaytara Foundation’s brand awareness, thought leadership in global oncology, and reputation as an impactful leader in minimizing cancer health care disparities.

Write and edit various types of content, including blog articles, press releases, media pitches, newsletter articles, fact sheets, key webpages, and impact stories.


15% Content Collection:

Conduct interviews with healthcare practitioners (such as at some of our conferences or virtually) and request content from Binaytara staff (such as from hospital staff in Nepal, from Education team in Bellevue) during production process and review process (for example, doctors may need to review health-related content)


15% Strategy & Management:

Supervise support staff / writers, providing mentorship and editorial oversight.

Manage the editorial calendar to ensure consistent content for our different stakeholder audiences balanced between news media (pitches, op-eds, press releases), cancer patients (articles about treatment and care), donors (impact stories, program fact sheets), and healthcare providers (blogs related to our conferences and conference presentations).

Maintain high editorial standards, ensuring all content is clear, compelling, and scientifically accurate.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.

At least 5-7 years of full-time relevant professional experience required, with at least two years of experience managing staff.

Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills demonstrated by prior publications

Track record of communicating technical topics with clear and engaging content.

Experience creating content with a lens for diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as for a global audience.

Excellent project management skills, organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.

Passion for being a leader, building culture, and being a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience writing about health-related topics.

Experience in the nonprofit, scientific or healthcare sectors.

Experience collaborating with graphic designers to ensure photography, infographics, data and other design elements elevate the written content.
