BTF Telemedicine Project

Binaytara Foundation completed more than 100 telemedicine sessions with physicians in Manipal College of Medical Sciences Pokhara, Nepal to help improve patient care and promote evidence based medicine in Nepal. The weekly telemedicine sessions started in March 2010 and continued until March 2012.

Using wireless video consultation, medical students, interns, residents and other physicians at Manipal College of Medical Sciences were able to discuss challenging cases with the experts in the field from United States of America. This helped impact patient care. Experts in USA volunteered for this project and they also provided lectures for the medical students and physicians in Nepal. The goal of the BTF telemedicine project was to help improve physicians’ access to cutting edge medicine available only in developed countries and few centers in developing countries. Dr. Robert Molokie, assistant professor of hematology oncology at University of Illinois at Chicago and Dr. Umid Shrestha, Associate Professor of Medicine at Manipal College of Medical Sciences coordinated the project in USA and Nepal respectively.
