Binaytara Foundation

Tara’s Elegance, a women’s premium jeans company, auctioned some of its inventory on March 16th 2013 (during Tara’s Elegance Modeling Contest) to raise funds for Binaytara Foundation and the local literacy council. All the proceeds from the auction were donated to the charities.

Each organization received $195 form the fundraiser auction.

Binaytara foundation is organizing Updates in Hematologic Malignancies, a multidisciplinary conference at Lewiston, Idaho in collaboration with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Lewiston, Idaho. The conference will be held at Williams Conference Center of Lewis-Clark State College on August 10, 2013. Esteemed faculty from University of Illinois, University of Washington School of Medicine and University of Arizona will discuss current and emerging concepts in the field of hematologic malignancies. Dr. Michael Rooney, Chief Medical Officer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center will chair the conference. Please visit http://hematology.binayfoundation.org/ for registration.

The Committee on Non-Governmental Organization at its regular session, held from 21-30 January 2013, recommended Binaytara Foundation for Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council. This recommendation is subject to the approval of the Economic and Social Council, which will consider and take action on the Committee’s recommendation at its substantive session scheduled for late July 2013.

Dana Sleeper has recently joined BTF as executive director of fund development.
Dana is a freelance writer, researcher, and graduate of the George Washington University’s School of Business. In addition to working full-time as a Development Associate at Hanover Research in Washington, DC, she writes material for Boundless Learning’s open-access e-text books, blogs and manages grants for the BinayTara Foundation, volunteers for various human services organizations, and serves as a Nagoya, Japan Study Abroad Ambassador for IES.

BTF and University of Illinois Hospital launched medicine specialty review courses. The first University of Illinois Hospital & BTF Telemedicine Specialty course: Hematologic Malignancies: A patient- specific approach in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures started on January 11, 2013. Karen Sweiss, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice at University of Illinois gave a lecture on "Old and New drugs in Hematologic Malignancies." The lecture was recorded and will be archived on the BTF website.

BTF Medical Research Grant recipient Subecha Bhusal and her team’s research findings have been published in the Journal of Nepal Health Research Council, a peer-reviewed medical journal. The study entitled “Violence against women by their husband and postpartum depression” was a prospective cohort study conducted among pregnant women of reproductive age group. This study did not show any significant association of violence against women with postpartum depression among Nepalese population.

Binaytara foundation (BTF) has selected five research proposals for its 2012 medical research grants. BTF received 38 research proposals for its 2012 medical research grants. Each year BTF awards such grants to young researchers to encourage them to understand and practice evidence-based medicine early in their careers. Winners were selected by BTF scientific advisory committee.

BTF and University of Illinois Hospital are launching medicine specialty review courses. The goal is to promote evidence based practice in developing countries. First review course will focus on Hematologic Malignancies. You must register to participate in this program. Dr Raksha Shrestha manages BTF social media. She graduated from Nepal Medical College in December 2011 with honors. Following her keen interest in research, Raksha carried out her own study with grant aid from Binayatara Foundation during her third year of medical school. She published her paper entitled ‘Incidence of dysmenorrhea associated with high stress scores among the undergraduate Nepalese medical students’ in Journal of Institute of Medicine.
