Application Guidelines

Binaytara Foundation (BTF) encourages and supports research related to the causes, mechanisms, prevention, and treatment of common diseases. Through a peer-review process, members of BTF Scientific Advisory Committee evaluate applications using evaluation scale and make recommendations to the Board of the Directors for funding.

Medical Research Grant 2011

The BTF is accepting applications via an online application submission form. Any questions regarding the application should be mailed to . The application deadline for all grant applications is Aug 31, 2011. Applications received after deadline will be considered for research grant in 2012.

Competition Schedule and Information
Competitions are held annually. Awards will be announced in December 2011.

Eligibility

Any medical student or internal medicine resident from Medical Schools in Nepal and India is eligible to apply for the research grant. One candidate can apply for only one grant in a year. Each research grant proposal should be written by the candidate with a preceptor (mentor).

Institutional Support

The applicant must demonstrate that the project will be allowed to be done in his/her medical school. He/she must produce a copy of approval or pending approval of the proposed study by institutional review board (IRB), OR its equivalent.

Processing of Applications

  • Relevance of the study to the Nepali or Indian community.
  • Educational experience for the applicant.
  • Scientific value of the project.
  • The research background and experience of the preceptor.

Funding guidelines and limitations

  • Grant awards will be provided in amounts up to $500 for one project.
  • Half of the grant amount will be provided upon approval of the research proposal and the rest half after submission of the completed project report.
  • Binaytara Foundation reserves the right to withhold payment at any time pending resolution of any discrepancies in the use of funds, and/or if the specific aims are not met, all as set forth in the grant proposal and any revisions required thereto by Binaytara Foundation prior to acceptance and approval.
  • Awards may not be contributed to a unified or pooled fund that will be used to award grants or support other projects.
  • Grants are awarded on the basis of the content of the proposal.
  • If the investigator wishes to discontinue the project prior to completion, he/she must notify Binaytara Foundation in writing within ten business days of termination of work on the project. The remaining funds from the grant award as of the date of termination of work on the project must be returned to Binaytara Foundation.

The following will not be funded:

  • Stipends or salary for students.
  • Overhead or indirect costs.
  • Meals, advertisements etc.
